Dark Treasure - I first discovered Amanda Marshall on accident, I was trying to find a version of I can t stand the rain that I used to play at dances back in the 70s. On a download site I got a live version of I can t Stand the Rain/ Let it Rain I wish I still had that recording, as it amazed me. Soon after, I began buying everything I could find that Amanda Marshall recorded. Here is her self titled debut album, which is many peoples favorite (if they ve even heard of AM) I love this album but it is mostly dark compared to the next two CD s. Birmingham for example, is a song about escaping an abusive husband, Last exit to eden is a song about wondering if you ve made the biggest mistake of your life, But Trust Me is a song about the way love can turn it all around, so there you go.So here s the deal, while this is the Amanda Marshall album I play the least, I still play it often. It is a keeper!
How could you no tlike this??? - If you have not heard Amanda Marshall trust me this is a fabulous album by a great artist! Amanda has a terrific voice and the songs are insightful. There is not one bad track on this album, the more I listen the more I love her voice and the lyrics. Amanda has certainly not had the exposure in the US she deserves which is a crying shame. Amanda we love your work.
Canada s best pop/rock export - I saw her Birmingham video on VH1 way back when and when I found the tape at a local store, only $4.99, brand new, I grabbed it up. I ve been playing that baby for 12 yrs so I decided to upgrade to the CD. There is some real depth here, not just in the songs but overall. Her voice is wonderful.
Amazing CD - I first heard Amanda Marshall when she opened up for John Mellencamp on one of his tours in the late 90 s. I promptly went out and bought this CD. From Wild Horses, to Let it Rain, to Birmingham this CD is solid from the beginning to the end. Amanda has that great smoky soulfull voice that could work in several different genres along the lines of Toby Lightman.I loved each one of her releases after this one, and wish she would have caught on more by now, but I hope she never stops releasing cd s.
Beautiful Hello - I absolutely adore this CD. Amanda Marshall has the kind of voice that suits just about any musical genre. She has the throaty impact of a jazz singer, the great melodious sound of a rocker, and the delicate huskiness of a diva. Her songs are rich with feeling - Beautiful Goodbye, Fall From Grace, Dark Horse and Let It Rain have etched themselves permanently in my mind - so much so that I bought her Collections compliation. All moods seem to be captured - love, joy, longing, regret, sorrow, strength, determination, reverie. A great addition to any vocal music collection.
